Slug Bug! Rules and Variations of the popular road game.

Slug Bug is a car game in which players slug each other in the arm when they spot a Volswagon Bettle and call out "Slug Bug!"
First let's define exactly what a Slug Bug is.
A Slug Bug is:
1. A vintage Volkswagen or 'Standard' Beetle
2. Any of the 'Beetlesque' coach-builts such as a Hebmuller
--- or Karmann Cabriolet (the Classic Convertible)
3. A non-German air-cooled Beetle of more recent manufacture
4. A modified but still recognizable Beetle based on any of the above
5. A Volkswagen New Beetle. Yes, they do count.
Now that we know what a Slug Bug is - what do we do when we see one? We yell "Slug Bug" and slug the person we're with on the shoulder. Not too hard! We don't want to hurt anyone. Just enough to make it felt. It is not necessary to add "no slug back" when calling a Slug Bug. Slug-backs are not allowed and will cost you one point for each punch. It also labels you a sore loser!
Some rules say that you also have to yell the color of the Bettle. (in my family we don't)
Scoring:
One point is awarded to the first person who calls it for each Slug Bug seen. If you wrongly identify a car as a Slug Bug and call it, one point is subtracted from you score. If you have already hit the person you're playing with and the misidentification is confirmed, the person wrongly slugged may at his discretion double slug the offender.
Two Points may be awarded for any unusually designed Bettle.
In my family down here in the South we award 5 points for any Bettle on blocks in a front yard. Ten bonus points are awarded if there happens to be a dog asleep under the blocked Bettle.
Looking away from the beetle and looking back does not give you the chance to slug again. However, walking away from one in a parking lot and seeing the same one again when you leave is open for slugging again.
Time Outs:
I have read about Time Outs, but in our family there are no Time Outs. The game is on all the time. (My husband has actually sent me a picture of a Bettle through my phone and Slug Bugged me via text!)
Non-Contact Version:
Some people like to play a non-contact version of Slug Bug. The rules are the same with the exception that you don't get to hit the person you're playing with. I normally call this version when I'm driving and tired of getting hit by my kids.
Slug Bug is a widely popular game played by children and adults alike. So popular in fact that there are even iphone applications to help keep score.
